Post Reaction Talk: Cheetah - My Number

Hiya gorgeous!

In today's Post Reaction Talk, I'll be covering Cheetah's video My Number! But before we continue, go and watch the MV and my reaction video!

Let's start with the fact that, as I'm writing this, I'm falling more and more in love with this song. It's one of the ones where it takes a few listens to really get into it. My Number is definitely going on my "I'm getting ready to go out and need to look and feel awesome and confident" playlist.

I wasn't too far off on what I thought the song was about though! Cheetah just wants to talk to someone who has a good attitude but all she's stuck with are ex-boyfriends and guys who try to get with her. I'm sorry Cheetah, you don't deserve that. But she has a solution though, she'll just change her number and everything will be alright! (How many numbers will the lady have to go through??)

Her style in this video is killer. I already said in my reaction that everything is very edgy and very cohesive.

Her makeup is so great in this entire video! Her green eyeshadow stands out from the rest of the pink and black in these shots. Still unsure how I feel about this short blonde wig she throws on in the second half of the video. It's not a bad wig, but it's not my favorite. I think she could've rocked something different with her second costume in the bar scene.

Cheetah and her Harley-Quinn/United States inspired dancers sit pretty with motorcycles and leather-clad gents. The words Hellcat and the explosions of fire give it that final 'murica touch. You know what I just realized? Cheetah barely dances in this video! I wonder why that is, but maybe dancing isn't her strong suit, which is totally fine. It's not my strong suit either. This just proves that being badass and sexy doesn't always have to come through on the dance floor. She expresses all of that with her great raps and cheeky smirks.

Again, this video and song are already growing on me since I filmed the video. I can't wait to see what Cheetah comes up with next!

Kpop Album Review: Kye Bum Zu's GOOD LIFE

Hi there!

An album review? Whoa, something new and different, huh? Well I'm very excited to start album reviews on this blog! I'm going to start out this series by talking about Kye Bum Zu's album GOOD LIFE.

This is my first Korean hip-hop album that I've listened to in full. I've enjoyed singles from Zion. T and Crush in the past, but I've never sat down and listened to more of their music. GOOD LIFE is an album I would recommend to someone who wants to branch out to other hip-hop and R&B artists.

There are so many songs on this album that one can dance to. Especially "Give It 2 U." The reason I was drawn to listen to the full album is because of this song and the music video that was released. Be sure to check it out below!

The track is dripping with great vocals on top of a solid beat. It features a rap from my favorite maknae, P.O from Block B. His deep, raspy voice against the rest of the song is a great mix.

The title song "GOOD LIFE" continues with solid beats similar to "Give It 2 U." Dok2 and The Quiett colaborated and added very unique voices to the song.

My other favorite song on this album is "BEAUTIFUL" because it is so different from the rest of Kye Bum Zu's songs. It's a side of him I wasn't expecting to hear. This kind of dramatic, soulful song would probably be played in the climatic part of a romantic movie, with the piano and strings backing up his heartfelt vocals. I almost wish that this was the very last song on this album. It would have been a great closure, but alas, it's the second to last song on the album.

Overall, this album is full of great dancing songs, excellent raps and vocals, and a smooth, cohesive sound. I'm very happy with Kye Bum Zu's work and I'm about to go and find more music from him!

Post Reaction Talk: SHINee - Married To The Music

Hello darlings!

I'm here with the very first Post Reaction Talk! What is Post Reaction Talk, you may ask? Well, these kinds of posts are going to be companion pieces to my music video reactions on my youtube channel. While the video is an immediate reaction to a MV, the blog post will have more put together thoughts.

I decided to watch SHINee's new music video, "Married to the Music!" I cannot believe the originality in this video! Seriously! I'm so happy I did my first reaction video with this song! It was definitely worth the wait!  But before I continue on with my Post Reaction Talk, go and watch the music video and my reaction video!

Okay, where to start...

This was such an eclectic concept for SHINee to showcase, but by the gods am I glad they did. I have never seen a concept for a MV like this before. It was a great mix of crazy, confusing, and colorful blended with unforeseen moments and a hint of horror.

I saw a very heavy influence from old horror and monster films in the music video. The members begin in a black and white car scene and end up at an old looking house with mismatched furniture, only to be given strange glowing liquid by a mysterious woman who ends up taking body parts off of each member. If that doesn't sound like the premise of a horror film I don't know what does.

The woman in the music video took the different parts of each of the members and pieced them together to create her own dream man (Frankenstein, anyone?)

Her magazine cuttings of the members, and a plan on how she's going to piece them together is seen on the left.

And here we see a glimpse of the creature itself...

Along with the influences of horror and monster movies...I saw another great influence in "Married to the Music." That's right, the glorious 1975 cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show! It itself is a throwback to earlier horror films with its own comedic, sexual, musical twist to it.

The blood dripping title text looks eerily familiar...

If these lips weren't singing "Married to the Music" they'd be singing "Science Fiction Double Feature."

A large party where everything is covered with glitter and confetti and everyone is dancing in crazy outfits? Sounds familiar...

Maybe I'm pulling the references out of thin air, but maybe I'm not. Maybe SHINee is as big of a Rocky Horror fan as I am and they were paying homage to the classic film. One can only hope.

It'll be a long time before I stop talking about this video with people. It's not everyday that videos take the horror concept and I think that SHINee did it in the perfect way. I was so entranced with this video and everything that was happening that I barely paid attention to the song the first time. (Now, it could be argued that this is a bad thing, but I personally believe in intriguing music videos that keep my attention over the song the first time because I can go back and listen to the song whenever I want. Moving on now.)

I cannot wait to see how the live performances of this song are going to go!

I shiver with antici...pation.

KPOP Favorites - July 2015

Hey kids!

This is my first ever post about kpop on this blog (which has been on hiatus for too long in my opinion)

I've been a fan of kpop for a really long time now, but I haven't really expanded my horizons to other groups until recently. If I were to make youtube videos just talking about my favorite kpop MV's and Singles, they would be very very long videos. (I'm already attempting to make monthly favorites videos on my channel as it is!) So, I decided to make a blog post about it instead!

Anyway, enough chit-chatting, here are my top 5 favorite kpop music videos from July!

1. GOT7 - Just Right

This is my first exposure to GOT7 and I think this was the perfect song to introduce me to them. This is like The Secret World of Arietty but with singing. The message of this song is excellent, and I think it was great to have them singing to a young girl instead of a woman their age. (Plus that girl is adorable!)

The aesthetics and styling in this music video is very cohesive. It's all brightly colored, fun, and silly. The song itself is catchy and I keep doing this dance move every time I listen to the song!

2. BIGBANG - Sober

The MADE project is my first real exposure to BIGBANG (why haven't I listened to them before?? I have a lot of catching up to do!) All of their recent songs from the project are just fantastic. Each one is so unique and each music video is so pleasing to the eye, and it's no different with this one!

Just on the title alone I thought this song was going to be more along the lines of Loser, but when those first few beats hit I knew I was mistaken. Again, this music video is so aesthetically pleasing to me, and all of the different shots they have are great. My personal favorite is the rotating room.

3. Crush (ft. Zico) - Oasis

As a long time Block B fan, I was drawn to watching Crush's Oasis because Zico was featured in it. Even so, I was definitely entranced by Crush's looks and voice. Boy, can he sing! This is the song that would come on as a summer party was winding down and you were about to take the long drive back home. (That's oddly specific, but just go along with it!)

Anyway, this is another great summer hit for me. There are catchy lyrics to sing along to ("Oh ah, she's mine, oh ah she's mine") and girls in bikinis. Who doesn't like that? I also appreciate Zion T's appearance at the end; I know that he and Crush are really tight and have done a lot together.

4. INFINITE - Bad

This music video is at the other end of the spectrum for my other favorites this month. It's edgy and dark, unlike the others, which are all light hearted and fun. I don't mind, it was a nice break listening to Bad.

The MV has a lot of short, little shots that flashed before my eyes. You never really get a good look at the woman who would occasionally pop up in between shots of INFINITE staring into mirrors. There were a lot of mirrors. And windows. And creepy hands hitting the windows.

Why do all of these songs have catchy lyrics this month? ("Bad bad bad bet a bad bad girl") This song is no different!

5. Guhara (ft. Giriboy) - Choco Chip Cookies

What a sweet little love song! And the MV is just as sweet with the shots of the couple hanging out and being all lovey-dovey. Relationship goals, am I right? Whoever styled Guhara for this video deserves a promotion because I want all of the clothes she wears!

I'm seeing a trend with recent MVs in that there are a bunch of added on graphic doodles over the video. This video does it, and so does Girl's Generation's Party! I'm sure we'll be seeing more of this kind of video editing in the future.

Honorable Mentions

Girl's Generation - Party

By far it's not my favorite Girls' Generation song, but it's still cute, catchy and overall summery!

Kisum (Ft. Jooyoung) - You & Me

More relationship goals in this very cute MV. Kisum is adorable and I can't wait to hear more from her!

Whoa, that was a lot, wasn't it? Thank you so much for reading this super long post about my Top 5! There were so many other great songs and MVs that it's hard just to pick my five favorites! Let me know what your favorite MVs from this month were and we can talk about them!
